November 10 - IBU Releases Their Best Album Yet
The group released their first single, “Next To The Candlelight” in 2002. The following year, they were part of a compilation CD, “Chicago Music Opportunity Project,” after winning the state sponsored Chicago Music Opportunity Project. They were then signed to their first recording contract, and recorded “Valentines For Lovers” with Wayne Cannady under RH Records in 2004. Shortly after, IBU decided to leave RH record and focused on producing their debut solo album. The group formed their own company/record label, Inspired Collection, LLC. “Redefined” was released in August 2005. By then the group was actively touring, doing and average of 50 shows a year. “Redefined” became a highly acclaimed CD and earned two awards from Muses Muse music critic, Gian Fierro. The album garnered the 2007 Muses Muse Half Decade Award for Top 20 albums, and the song “I Can’t Get Over You” received the 2007 Muse's Muse Half Decade Award for Top 10 Songs. Music critic Gian Fierro wrote “With potent vocals and a strong musical identity, IBU has truly succeeded in creating an R&B sound that’s Redefined.” The song became number 3 on WCH Radio's top 30 songs for 2006, was voted the 13th hottest song on Missouri's 97.3 hit music stream, and was ranked number 6 on their top 30 playlist for April 2006 on San Francisco’s Hot 97.7FM.
After their debut album, IBU was featured in two more compilation albums, “Joints Exclusive” and “Soul Music, Artist United for Autism” in 2008.
On the onset of 2008, IBU made the painful decision to take a self imposed hiatus from performing to go back to the creative process, a big risk for a group that’s been gaining momentum in popularity, but they felt they needed to give their fans fresh new materials. They also felt they needed a new album that would truly represent their true character as an R&B artist. Without looking back, they went to work. Being songwriters themselves, IBU wrote most of the songs on the album, and all the vocals are arranged by them. With the help of seven producers from all over the US, Germany and Belgium, the album was finally finished one year and a half later. The new album is self titled, “Inspired By U.”
IBU’s songs are known to contain lyrics that are passionate and heartfelt, songs that many people relate to. To this day, the song, “I Can’t Get Over You” continues to receive comments from people who say that the song tells the story of their relationships, and how it touches their hearts. The sophomore album showcases the full range of IBU’s vocal talent. Their now mature vocals combined with their harmony drenched compositions and lyrics create a beautiful mixture of emotion, passion and earnestness, which you do not hear much in today’s R&B music. The group members are very glad they took the risk of taking a self-imposed hiatus and they believe it was all worth it.
The members of IBU, Tommy Chanthasene, Michael Musni, and Jonathan Shauf believe this album encompasses everything that’s IBU, what they are about, and what it’s all about to them, as individuals. Their personal message on the album sums it all up.
IBU’s CD release party is scheduled for November 8 at Heat Nightclub in Schaumburg. Originally set for July 12, the party was postponed when the CD was signed to a major distribution deal.
