Daluyong: Surging to Confront the Crisis of Our Times is a national Filipino American Youth Consultation that will bring together progressive youth from California, New York, and Chicago to assess, share, and plan the necessary steps to advocate for our community’s concerns and to build a broad movement and program towards fundamental change.
This national Filipino American Youth Consultation will take place on July 24-26, 2009 in Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles, California and is organized and sponsored by Bagwis (Chicago), Committee on Pilipino Issues (Chicago), Ugnayan ng mga Anak ng Bayan [Linking the Children of the Motherland (New York and New Jersey)], and Kabataang maka-Bayan [KmB, Pro-People Youth (Bay Area, Los Angeles, and South Bay)], under the auspices of the Alliance for Just and Lasting Peace in the Philippines.

The conference aims to provide a venue to discuss, analyze, share and strengthen the work of progressive Filipino and Filipino American Youth/Student groups; to better serve and effect their local regional communities, build mechanisms of coordination on National Issues, and bridge the divide amongst the Filipino Diaspora in addressing Philippine and International concerns.

The issues to be address include: the implications of US wars of aggression, the economic crisis and the affect on working class Filipino Americans, the fight for relevant education in high school and college curriculum, and the need for youth and students to be involved in effecting policy. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences with youth organizing, relating local struggles to the broad anti-war movement and international struggles against imperialist war and intervention. In this manner, the conference hopes to strengthen unity and develop a common program of action for youth to advance the struggle for genuine lasting peace.

The specific objectives are:

1)To bring together youth (including but not limited to Filipino American youth) to sum-up and share experiences in the movement against U.S. led wars of aggression and intervention in the Philippines,

2) Highlight the Filipino American youth experiences and analysis of forced migration and systemic racism in the workplace, education system, media, immigration and justice system,

3) To highlight the need for academic reform and community tie-in among youth and student organizations (i.e., cuts in educational spending and its impact on high school and college youth, Filipino Ethnic Studies),

4) To strengthen and broaden alliances with youth and student organizations to link, raise, and advocate for local and international concerns,

5) To develop a common program of action and strengthen solidarity among youth and students,

6)Take a Systematic Investigation of the Filipino youth In the US through survey and workshop sharing,

7) Highlight the effect of the economic crisis in the US. And show how our issues as immigrant and second-generation youth will intensify through racism, budget cuts etc.
